ABOUT JOHN (they/them)
John Jarvis is a queer craftsperson and mechanic living and working on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations (aka Vancouver). With an educational background in biochemistry and structural biology, they are inspired by the intricacy of living/non-living systems, small and large. John seeks out mentorships and practises self-instruction to hone new skills. They are energised by repairing old cars, fixing bikes for friends, woodworking, design and manufacturing. As an active member of their queer climbing community, John extends their passion for climbing by volunteering with Balancing Acts, an organization that facilitates safe, inclusive and joyful experiences for new climbers, with minimal barriers to access. John believes that you are never finished learning and transforming, and that sharing time, skills, and excitement will nurture strength within their community.
